Three of our homes are located just above downtown in the historic Wahldorf building. With safety in mind we added a fire suppression sprinkler system in the entire building and a handicapped accessible ramp.
The Wahldorf was built in the early 1900's as an upscale apartment building that sits on the hillside overlooking downtown Duluth, Lake Superior and the Aerial Lift Bridge.
The building has been extensively renovated to offer three individual homes each with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room, sitting room, kitchen, dining area, and laundry room.
We do not allow smoking in the building. To accommodate the clients who choose to smoke we built an outdoor heated gazebo to keep everyone warm and safe during our Minnesota winters.
All administrative staff offices are located in the building which allows easy, quick access for clients and staff to help ensure quality service at all levels.
Lastly, and perhaps the nicest safety feature of the Wahldorf building, is the presence of staff 24 hours per day 7 days a week. With three programs under one roof we have a minimum of 6 staff present from 8am to 10pm and 3 staff from 10pm to 8am. Each program functions independently but neighboring staff often provide additional positive supports and may assist in the event of a crisis situation.
Arrowhead House also operates homes in the East Duluth area that are unobstructed views of Lake Superior.
Clients can watch the large ships on the lake while enjoying yard games or reading a book on the patio.
They may also try out their green thumb in the vegetable and flower gardens or take a walk on the Lakewalk located one block away.
